Thanking someone for retweeting you on Twitter is all well and good - but why not go one step further and RT one of their tweets instead.

I thank people for retweeting via #speednetworking or #bizitalk but if a existing follower retweets I will try and make the effect to retweet one of theirs.

+1 from me. Although to be fair, I try pretty hard to re-tweet anything that I read which I think is worth repeating. And even if you don't always RT, do make sure you say thanks!

What we do in that case (if the tweets are just chatter) is mention that we follow @******* and cut/paste their twitter bio.

Yes quite right, Matt. If someone takes the time to read and retweet my post, I always thank them for their support. The same goes for facebook, google+, etc.
