UK Business Labs Privacy & Cookie Policy
    Updated 3 Nov 2013.

We (UK Business Labs ('UKBL')) provide you with a business networking forum. To be able to do this we will request some information from you on Registration (sign-up). The only information we require for functionality is your forum 'User ID' (so we and other users may recognise you when you post), your email address (to confirm your registration and to provide you with optional updates in various formats) and your device's IP address (this is collected automatically and is in line with the behavior of pretty much every website in the world). No other information is mandatory in order to use this website and, if supplied, is entirely voluntary.

This policy (the “UKBL Privacy & Cookie Policy”) describes what personal information we may collect from you and what we will and will not do with that information.

    1. How we collect and use personal information.

When you sign up for a UKBL account and subsequently access the UKBL Forum you may choose to enter personal details on your profile page; for example your photo or logo (avatar), telephone number, address etc. The majority of these information fields are public and used primarily for your promotion here; but also for other people browsing the site to be able to search for you. Other than the occasional analysis for our own use and your email address for our email Newsletter and automated forum notifications, we will not use this information for any other purpose. We further undertake that your information will never be used for marketing purposes to third parties.

We may occasionally request anonymous statistics (via the forum software, our 'Plesk' Hosting Control Panel, Google Analytics* and other similar applications) about our members' use of the forum including information such as [search] queries made, the URL of the website or application from which members visit and/or access the forum, the date and time of their visit, the URL of threads they read, their Internet Protocol address (IP), performance of their network and computer, their browser type, language and their operating system. All pretty standard stuff and, in reality, we're far too busy networking with our members to bother!

*Google Analytics data is shared with Google. For more information on Google's Privacy Policies, visit: http://www.google.com/analytics/learn/privacy.html

    2. Sharing information with others

We will only share your private information (including IP address) with legal entities such as the Police and the Courts - and then only when requested to do so under a Court Order in pursuance of a legal investigation.

As a benefit to all our members we occasionally share some of the forum's content on various social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, Google+, LinkedIn and similar platforms. In almost all cases, this sharing will generate backlinks, views and exposure for YOUR content. Should you not wish to have any social media expoure via UK Business Labs please either cancel your registration or membership or, when you have registered, take out Full Membership (which gives you the option of posting in private forums).

Third Party Applications (accessed via the 'Add This' buttons) such as Twitter and Facebook may require you to provide your personal information in order to access (log on to) their Third Party Applications. In such cases, you will be informed about this either during the registration process, in the terms of use or privacy policy of the Third Party Application, by requiring you to login or register, or in a similar manner. Please visit the privacy policy of the relevant third party to make sure that you understand how they use the personal information you provide to them. If you do not wish for such use of your personal data you should not register for or use the applicable Third Party Application.

    3. Security

We take a number of steps to keep your personal information secure from unauthorized access. For example we ask you to use a unique and strong password and not to share this information with anyone. In addition, our hosting service uses encryption to prevent unauthorised access to the system (database) that stores your personal information. In the unlikely event that the forum database is compromised we will notify (by email) all our members as soon as we become aware ourselves.

We do not have access to your forum password. Should you wish to change this for any reason, please use the password reset function here.

    4. Access to personal information and corrections

You can access, update and/or remove most of the personal information the site holds on you via your 'User CP' (User Control Panel). Your forum user name can be changed on request (please email us using the address registered with us).

    5. Links

We may display links to third party websites. Please note that we cannot control and cannot be held responsible for the privacy policies (or the content) of such websites should you choose to visit them. You are advised to read the privacy policy of any website to find out more about how personal information is collected and processed.

    6. Cookies. Don't panic - it's normal!

What is a cookie? A cookie is a small file which asks permission to be placed on your computer's hard drive. Cookies aren't new - they've been around for decades. Your browser's settings will determine whether or not cookies are accepted. If the cookie is accepted, it helps analyse web traffic or lets us know when someone visits a particular site or page ('clicks'). Cookies also (importantly) allow the forum to respond to you as an individual. The forum can tailor its operations and behaviour to your needs, likes and dislikes by gathering and remembering information about your preferences. When you register (and also when you login using the form at the top of the screen), you will be given the option to 'Remember Me'. This will store your login identity securely in a cookie on your computer and you should not need to log in every time you visit. If you are using a shared computer, such as in a library, school or internet cafe, or if you have reason to not trust any other users that might use your computer, we recommend you do not enable this.

If you choose not to accept cookies for this site it may not remember your preferences and/or you may have to log in manually every time you visit. A cookie does not give us (or the forum software) access to your computer or any information about you other than the data you choose to share with us on the forum and in your profile.

We may use traffic log cookies to identify which pages are being used. This helps us analyse data about webpage traffic and improve our website in order to tailor it to our members' needs.

Promotional links and banners on the site (with the exception of AdSense and other similar third party schemes) are placed manually at an advertiser's request. We do not use any form of site or statistical analysis to advise them to do so based on members' specific use of the network. The only data we will provide advertisers is, for example; page hit totals, unique user totals, monthly traffic and similar anonymous statistics.

Ad-serving in the form of AdSense and other similar third party schemes is also present on this site. They may serve 'page-relevant' links, serve advertising relevant to your location (based on your IP address) and may also place cookies on your machine in order to reference clicks to our various affiliates and/or serve relevant ads to you on your browser.

We and your fellow members may embed or attach photos, images, video and other content from websites such as YouTube, PhotoBucket and similar. Pages with this type of 'embedded' content may present cookies from these websites. Similarly, when you use one of the 'Add This' buttons a cookie may be set by the website you have chosen to share content with. UKBL does not control the placement or behaviour of these cookies and this site will not block cookies from those websites. You should check the relevant third party website for more information about these and/or change your cookie settings in your browser accordingly.

For more detail on how businesses use cookies on websites, please see All About Computer Cookies.

How do I clear cookies? Information on how to clear cookies from your system may be found here.

    7. The upshot of all this?

Well, if you don't want to accept cookies then perhaps the internet - and social media in particular - is not for you!

    8. Changes to this UK Business Labs Privacy & Cookie Policy

UK Business Labs reserves the right to make changes to this Privacy Policy at any time. If we make any changes to this policy we will update it here. It is your responsibility to check the forum for this and similar policy updates from time to time.

If you have any concerns, questions or thoughts on how we can improve our privacy policy, please let us know by sending an email to admin@ukbusinesslabs.co.uk.
