    Five years?! Outwageous!

Surely he should be doing ten hours community service with extra driving lessons and a Reiki course thrown-in to help him ''adjust back into society'' and ''move on'' with his life?...

    /sarcasm

Thirty years would not be enough.

It is refreshing that someone whose driving is this dangerous is getting the attention of the law.

Trouble is there are so many people that you see every day texting or using mobile phones whilst driving. Or reading maps (although not quite so much these days). Or putting on make-up. Or anything else you can mention other than actually concentrating on driving.

Well it certainly looks like he deserves to do some time.

Tailgating is my big bug bear, although after motorbike touring across Europe last month it doesn't seem so bad here now.

No, but you can punish it. Five years for killing two people? Seriously?

Sadly, it's the way the law is structured mate.

Well, I'm sure all right-thinking, non-apologist people would agree.

Sadly I can't change the law but yes killing two people through your own stupidity would be dealt with just as harshly whether you're behind the wheel of a vehicle or not.

You raise a point that I do wonder about a lot. Why does the fact that the killing happened whilst driving cause a different legal response?

    It ought not to.

And you are correct. We cannot change the law. And whilst deaths like this happen, the police will still continue to focus on minor breaches of speed limits in areas that are utterly safe.

I can get away with the Libor scandal worth billions and nobody in my bank gets their collar felt...this guy gets a paltry 2.5 years for each death and would do a total of 2.somethig and let go but there are hundreds in jail for most of their life through bent coppers and bent lawyers and thousands not in prison who should be.

In my lifetime there have been henious miscarriages of justuce and yet we continue to squeel about having the best system in the world. Well not if they have screwed you it isnt. The national lottery is the justice system not the National Lottery where folk win money :dunce:

Anything under 20 years for taking another life is just wrong.

I hate driving and I hate it just because of "drivers' such as the one mentioned. 5 years? 5 years and thousands of tears for the innocent victims? That`s not fair
