Local targeting/geo-targeting is the main aspect on high priority bases.

It depends very much on what type of business you have and who you want to target.

    Learn your target market.
Learn what you audience likes and dislikes.
Find out where your audience hang out or visit.

Once you have figured the above out you can then do a strategy.

Try to stay local when you start out in business.
It is cheaper and you will find it will convert better in the long run.

Lets say just for example you have a coffee shop.
you are next to the beach and have a theater run by the local council.

My target audience is a 6 mile radius of where my coffee shop
is. I am looking for people between 18 - 60.

There is a Costa coffee at the top of the road as well and a local college.

I know with Costa never mind what i do i will not beat them on Coffee so discounting
the coffee would have very little impact.

    But there food is expensive

I would do a pizza deal with chips and a coffee for £2.49

I would have a guy giving leaflets out near the college at dinner time
    on a Monday and Tuesday.

This would beat Costas wth there coffee

But we can't just relly on lunch time with students

since i am next to the beach i would sell 99p cones and give
    away free balloons and face-painting

    summer holidays only

It's not my target market but i would be making use of the local market
    and people around me.

For evenings i would do a set meal for two bring
    your own wine for £12.

Discount if you have theater tickets.

With moving outwards i would start doing delivery
for expansion to start with it would be collection only
and i would move to having a delivery driver.

This is pretty hypothetical but how i would expand and market a coffee shop.
