I would add bizsugar.com to the list although it's exclusively for small business tips and advice.

I've used reddit in the past, got inspiration from some viral content, rejigged the story a bit to make it relevant to my website and posted it, got over a thousand comments, and hundreds of visits a day during the peak, now it's around 10 or so a day. But it got the word out and as a result got numerous other websites linking to me as well..

I also see a traffic spike from Reddit.com (not 20,000 though!) when linking to articles on my blog.

I noticed that out of our 6000+ followers on Twitter the page only gets around 2 views maximum daily. Which is poor, very, very poor.

So I think unless your a name to watch on Twitter you have to seriously adopt the live search for people looking or considering your product and target them yourself.

Social bookmarking is bringing some traffic to the site, however I can see what articles are favoured and which ones are not so this proves to be helpful.

I've found this thread very useful and has greatly improved my understanding of social bookmarking sites. A big thanks for the comments made by SuperKarim which have given a lot of clarity to the benefits of social bookmarking.

Do you mean your profile page?

In my experience, people rarely - if ever - read profile pages there. It's all about the numbers and blind follows!

Yup the profile & those #teamfollowback people drive me insane! I think you have about 10 minutes to follow back or they get rid of you.

That is the problem with Twitter as much as you think you have targeted you audience really well, chances are the endless Justin Bieber lovers are in your followers group.

I think the main benefit of Twitter is basically the live search function to target your audience.

It's definitely timely but I don't consider it networking in the true sense.

and actually a whole heap more than that. But I analyse which ones bring traffic and I know which ones are in the Google algorithm for search engine position. There is a difference.

The best social bookmarking sites are websites that have high authority/Domain Authority like, stumbleupon, pinterest, twitter, delicious, reddit, digg, fark, slashdat, newsvine, folkd and more.. Just stick to these authority social bookmarking sites and avoid bulk social bookmarking sites.. Good Luck!:)

Remember that most 'social' sites are great for generating real people traffic, unfortunately most of these also add 'no-follow' or 'no-index' tags to the links so the search engines ignore them when crawling the internet.
