Well as someone else pointed out. Here was are. Doomed. We are now allowing the government a small but crucial step into policing us in our personal space.

My personal space has been policed for a very long time by government both local and national. Decided I will become a bit subversive in my old age. The older you get the wiser and sadder you get as you realise it's all a game. A huge game...like Monopoly played out on a bigger stage. Church and state ..each simply about the cultivation of the art of 'me,me,me'.

Watch me,hear me, vote for me.. I am your salvation.

Tosh, but it takes a while for us to get this.:drunk:

They'll ban smoking in people's own homes next. I can guarantee it.

And exactly how will they enforce this new law? What is the cut-off age which makes a child into an adult and how will they tell without stopping every car how old each occupant is? I hear someone on the radio say that all of the argument against are the same as those used against seat belt laws 30 years ago. No, not really. It's pretty easy to see if someone is wearing a seat belt.

I assume the next law will be a ban on smoking in your own home if you have children?

We are constantly told that surveillance is for our own protection or in our own best interested. We have CCTV watching us 24 hours a day if we walk through any town centre (or millions of other places). The UK is the CCTV capital of the World. We are now told that our Internet connections should be locked down to protect us against horrible things online. We have in car surveillance that we impose on ourselves to reduce our car insurance. We give our children mobile phones so that we can keep track of the constantly.

Today we have alarms in our cars that go off if we don't have our seat belt on. Give it a few years and we will have sensors and alarms that warn us not to smoke in our own cars, houses, streets, etc.

So what's the next step? You can't smoke in your house if kids are present?

Err, maybe I am missing something here but surely it will be better for the health of the children in the car?

You're correct but the point that's disturbing is the government taking enforcement action within a family's personal space. This opens the door to all kinds of other laws that haven't ever been put into operation before.

From my view of the world it would seem far more likely that kids, given half a chance, would be smoking in the parents' car not the adults themselves.
