Sure, let the silly whiners ban something else. None of them run their own businesses, wasters the lot of them.

Whilst we're at it let's ban radios and media players as well, and make it so that nobody is allowed to talk to the driver.

    As I tweeted earlier:

Don't ban mobile phones in cars - teach responsible driving and the value of life. STOP BANNING STUFF.

How about a ban on passengers. Especially young children! They can be very distracting. Maybe we should only product single seat cars with no heating to keep everyone concentrating 100% on the road!

I'm good with banning cyclists wearing headphones- that's an out and out safety issue.

How can they be aware of anything else on the road if they can't hear?

On the TV yesterday I watched the footage of a young man walking across in front of a train with headphones one. He did not hear the train - and trains are not quiet.

I am not calling for a ban, but actually, wearing headphones is potentially dangerous.

I would feel the same way about wearing blue tooth headsets whilst driving.

I am not sure how to solve it though. My instincts go against a ban, and yet I wonder whether there is any other way of discouraging people.

The thing is, it is complex. Personally, having a screaming child in a car seat whilst driving IS dangerous, for example, unless you have the ability to totally tune out and concentrate.

Unfortunately you can't legislate for common sense. And you can protect people from themselves all of the time!

Some would say so is eating a Mars bar while driving?

The thing is; all this banning - where does it end?

It eventually ends with your liberty.

As Ben Franklin said "Those Who Sacrifice Liberty For Security Deserve Neither." The same goes for the current safety culture: "Those who sacrifice freedom for safety deserve neither". Sorry Ben!
