    5. Email marketing - market to existing customers using email marketing to draw attention to new products and promotions. Alternatively, if you're just starting out you could buy in a list and market to them.

That's true - you have to be very careful with any data providers you work with. I've never experienced this kind of issue before but I tend to only work with data providers who specialise in particular market sectors. My advice would be to do your research before buying in any data - not all data providers are what they seem. However, if you use more reputable data companies such as LeadX then you should be fine.

    15. Write a Press Release

(and submit it to relevant online sources) - perhaps more effective within the local community; can you write a press release about something you've done recently and submit it to a local news source? I'm sure you can!

There are plenty of "big" sites to publish articles and releases at, but the impact is likely to be greater within a smaller scope - particularly if you've already established your brand name!

    18. Optimise LinkedIn Profile for SEO - this is very important. For instance, did you know that the links you add to your LinkedIn profile are follow links? This means they'll be counted by the Search Engines. You can also optimise the way your links are displayed on your profile - just go to edit profile and edit your links. in the drop-down for websites - select other, add a descriptive keyword to the second field and then add the link - your link will then appear with anchor text (e.g. small business insurance) rather than "Company Website" or "Personal Website"
