Default Choose mobility... choose Dell

12 Sep 08:

Eagle Imagery™ chooses Dell and a Precision™ M2400 for it's mobile IT requirement.

The magnesium alloy M2400 is Dell's latest offering in the performance vs portability arena and will address a capability gap identified in the third quarter of 2008.

I was dreading the phone call to them as I'd heard so many horror stories. However, I was pleasantly surprised and the guy (I'm assuming in India) on the other end of the phone was wonderfully helpful and straight-talking.

He managed to give me a token discount (as I was a business user) but it was nothing earth-moving at 6.5%. Better than a kick in the teeth I suppose...

Well done Dell - your continually improving reputation is well-founded in my opinion.

I've not had any problems

Never really been a fan of dell machines, but I do appreciate that they are improving on quality whilst keeping very competitive prices

I've always thought Dell hardware is pretty good but what has always let them down in the past is customer service. They are great at initial sales but problems have always come for me with subsequent hardware problems (mainly with servers). It just takes far too long for them to get an engineer onsite and they do anything to avoid this which is not good when you have paid for a maintenance uplift and you have a production system down.

I haven't used Dell servers for quite a while and do understand from others that they have improved. At the same time I know that HP service has got consierably worse (well actually Compaq services since HP took over).

I tried to order a Dell laptop. First they sent me an email saying that my order had been delayed, then some time later sent me another email saying that they could not build a laptop with the components I had asked for at all. They wanted me to try again, apparently hoping that this time I would order a laptop they could actually build. I gave up and went to Laptops Direct (Laptops | Laptop. Buy Cheap Laptops in the UK. Notebook, Cheap Notebooks, New Cheap Laptop, Used and Refurbished Laptops. Find bargain Laptop Computers for Home or Business.) and had my new Toshiba Satellite Pro arrive the next day.

Just taken delivery - a five day turnaround, not bad at all.

Now to rip the crap out and reinstall the OS.

Would be nice, wouldn't it... wonder if Apple would be interested in sponsoring me!

Anyone one from Apple listening?

Ah yes bloatware..... I believe Dell will remove it prior to shipping... for a cost
Sony were rumoured to be shipping bloatware free laptops now if specified at purchase? Not sure on the truth in that though.

Default Choose Dell

I have Dell vostro 1000 on a 2 year hire lease from dell.

I had to check something the accountant told me too bout my laptop from dell, so loaded up their web page, called the number for customers services, to ask a simple question only to be passed from pillar to post, and different departments.

Needless to say after about an hour i gave up and was still none the wiser.

All i wanted to find out was " after my 2 yr hire contract is up, do i have the option of buying the laptop from them"? not exactly a hard question to find the answer to, or so you would think.

thankfully i still have just over a yr left on it so, MIGHT try again nearer the hire contract end.
