Default Man avoids prison because it would upset his family...

Morrison pled guilty to severely injuring and permanently scarring Mr Deans, 24, in Haddington on 23 September last year.

"It would be very easy to send you to prison but that would have a devastating effect on your family."

I'm sure the "We couldn't have the family upset" comment was the judge's way of saying the prison system is full and we don't have any money left for locking any more criminals up.

Damn MP's have had all the spare cash

Unfortunately, Ray, I think you are spot on.

It has a fairly devastating effect on my family that I pay almost 60% of my income (resulting from actual honest toil) in tax. Should I mention this to HMRC and hope for leniency?

Ironically, it's probably easier to get locked up (or at least severely punished) for not paying one of the many taxes around, than it is for breaking any of the other laws!
