'Compelling case' for road tolls

There is a "compelling" case for a system of road charging, according to a report by the Institute for Fiscal Studies and the RAC.

Plugging the gap would require a 50% rise in fuel duty, according to the IFS.

It recommends moving towards a nationwide system of road charging, including road tolls, to account for this loss of revenue.

We are all driving more cost efficient vehicles so they lose revenue on fuel tax. The response - charge you for using the roads - result - people drive less - more loss of revenue!
