Networking for Homeworkers - Hartwell - Northants

I decided to try and experiment, since I have recently returned to working from home, I wondered how many other living in my village might be doing the same thing. It can get pretty lonely, so I thought we should endeavour to meet up for 2 reasons, one to get out of the 4 walls and actually speak to real people (social online networking asside) and secondly maybe we can help each other out in our different lines of business.

So - we had our inaugural meeting today of the Hartwell Working Lunch , which was organised via a combination of posting on local village forum, and by putting a poster up in the one village shop. We had 7 attendees and had a very pleasant time in the local pub. Everyone seemed to enjoy the experience and seemed keen to repeat it again next month.

It didn't take much organisation, just making people aware of a time and a place to meet, once everyone arrived and a few introductions it kind of ran itself.

So I challenge you - if you are in the same situation and run your own business or work in the home and wish for some social interaction and a friendly face - do as I did and arrange it for yourself instead of waiting for an invitation from someone else! I can recommend it.

It is a fab idea - it's amazing how many people there are working from home in one location sometimes - and they may not want to attend more 'organised' 'big business' networking.

It's a great idea and should be put into immediate effect nationwide.

All too often home based businesses are treated as lesser beings by those with formal offices/warehouses/factories. I have been bumping against this all my business life.

Perhaps we ought to establish at least one in each county - we already have Northants and Leicestershire interested.

How can this be organized so it actually happens and doesn't just get consigned to the good ideas that no-one could really be bothered with bin

It needs a homeworker in each place who is willing to organise it. I don;t think I could organise events in orther Northamptonshire villages, that would then become just like the local networking events I have gone too which seem more commercial - and would take up too much time and therefore eat into my work time.

basically it just needs someone to be told of the idea and to act on it - local is the key. If you like the idea, you organise it for your town or village -simple as that!
