Pearl's Olympic Recruit
Olympic Games Technology Manager Joins Pearl
Pearl are pleased to announce the appointment of Andrew Mulvenna as a new company director. Mr. Mulvenna previously held the position of Venue Technology Manager at global IT service provider, Atos Origin, who is the primary IT provider for the Olympics Games from Salt Lake 2002 to London 2012.
"Once the Games commenced, everything had to work. Any systems failure would be visible to the world's media and over 4 billion TV viewers. One of the most important parts of the project was testing: we tested, tested and then tested again. I recall watching the athletes during the opening ceremony and feeling relief that everything was ready...there was nothing more we could do." Mulvenna recalls.
When asked how this experience transferred to Pearl, he replied "The Olympics can be viewed as a business: it has users who demand a secure, reliable system that works exactly how they expect it to work, every time. If the system fails or corrupts data, the business of the games is affected. In the same respect, Pearl is used by companies to run all aspects of their business. It is mission critical. Any system failure would be disastrous for the client's business. Therefore Pearl must be secure and reliable so clients can depend on it, whilst flexible and scalable so it can meet the demands of fast moving businesses. The only real differences between Pearl and the Olympics is that 4 billion people are not watching and that Pearl is used by businesses for years, not just a couple of weeks, as with the Games."
