Why don't we just kick companies who do this out of the UK?

Somehow the big companies always know the super duper tax avoidance plans!
Unfair and frustrating to say the least

There are plenty of methods for businesses and individuals to reduce the burden of income/corporation tax - but they all involve having a reasonable sum of money to invest to get them started. The typical minimum is £100k.

It has to be this high so that the tax saved outweighs the fees involved setting things up.

So it isn't just for big business - just people with a high tax burden and some savings.

Out of (perhaps naive) interest; how do you go about setting up 'offshore' banking?

There are plenty of ways if you search good ol' google. Most involve paying fees to a business with links based in the country of choice.

You can always pop into a bank when you are on holiday - but the businesses offering the service do at least explain the differences between various locations and what tax consequences may arise from opening and using such an account.
