Experiences of grants/subsidies/awards

Hi,
Has anyone got any experiences they’d like to share of applying for grants/subsidies/awards? Our Press Officer is writing a feature for a national magazine about alternative funding for small businesses and she'd be especially interested in speaking to people today who have experience of the application process – it’ll just mean answering a couple of questions via email.
