Microsoft: The Vista Bullying Stops Here
Quote:
Windows Vista has been dragged through the mud by the bullies with which it competes, but those bullies are about to get hit with some long overdue retaliation.
That's the message from Brad Brooks, Corporate Vice President of Windows Consumer Products, who in a Tuesday keynote speech at Microsoft (NSDQ:MSFT)'s Worldwide Partner Conference in Houston attempted to swat away the negative mojo around the OS that has built up since its launch.
"There are a lot of myths around Windows Vista. We know the story is very different than what our competitors would like us to think," Brooks told the audience.
In a clear dig at Apple (NSDQ:AAPL) and it's 'I'm a PC, I'm a Mac' advertisements, Brooks suggested that Microsoft is preparing to retaliate against "noisy competitors" with a major new multi-million dollar advertising campaign, something that many channel partners have been hoping the software giant would do for months.
"You thought the sleeping giant was still sleeping. We've woken up and it's time to take this message forward.

Best OS ever in my opinion; virtually flawless since day one.

Microsoft Vista
Hi
I am sorry, but i have vista on my business laptop, and to be honest i wish i never chose that o/s now.
I currently run one desktop and another personal laptop on Xp pro, and i find that they do the job without any problems what so ever.
Vista still has some compatibility problems they need to iron out, once these have been sorted i will be sure to look at vista again

Although I did have a number of compatibility issues when we first adopted Vista (Jan/Feb 2007) we are now running very smoothly, and it has made wireless file share and printing a breeze. I used to find under XP that the connections would periodically get lost, and I'd keep having to set them up again, although I agree that XP is fine otherwise, and very stable.

I use Vista, and I have to say that while it is great, over 50% of the isues I get are incompatibility issues between it and IE.
I have everything set up to auto update, I have absolutely no dodgy software like p2p, or wors pirate software, on this machine, and it oes give me far more issues than my xp pro machines.
One of my HUGE gripes with vista is the DRM crap that is on there. It is to the point that if i place a DRM protected disk into a drive it will not allow me to do anything as all my drives are writers. So i can't watch a disney movie on a seriously expensive machine with a very expensive monitor on.
OK my final verdict is that how good it is outweighs how bad it is performance wise, but PURELY for the DRM crap, I hate it. I don't see why watching a movie should be disallowed because the drive is a writer? (which I assume is the reason)

I am not sure the best way to answer critics is to spend money on advertising. Perhaps they should fix the issues rather than try to convince people they don't exist...?
I have not installed Vista because of the horrors I have heard from customers. I also see a lot of friends and business associates going Mac these days. I am personally happy to stay on XP until life gets really hard in terms of support.

XP Pro runs perfectly on my system, and with very little Vista-only software around, I can't see the point in risking an upgrade. Aside from which, I saw a demonstration when it first came out and was put off by the 'gimmickness' of it all!

I admit to being a fully paid up member of the Vista fan club. I have had it for 8 months now, and would not go back.
It did take me a little while to aclimatise, but no more than I remember with XP. I certainly would not back load XP on a new machine. I have an XP machine on the network here, and any compatibility issues have been easily solved with simple downloads.
I wouldnt upgrade for the sack of it, mind, but I am glad I selected it for my laptop back in December!

To be honest I have never had any problems with XP or Vista, however, I always read posts from people who do.
In my opinion the spec of the computer is a BIG issue when it comes to operating systems and although they are built to run on a minimum spec I have found there are far less problems when using a decent machine, I have 4gb of memory and an Intel core 2 processor and can honestly say I have not had any problems with Vista.
How you look after your system and general PC competence are also a big issue, obviously accidentally deleting an imortant system file is going to cause problems

Most of the Vista bugs have been fixed, there are a couple of downloads that you can get from Fedora Project and Ubuntu Home Page | Ubuntu that'll fix it

I like Vista. There, I said it. I'm now well and truly out of the closet . I use it on my laptop and it's fine. Yes it takes a bit of getting used to but no more than other software.
Embrace the change is what I say

vista
Yes i agree Vista does take a lot of getting used too.
But while it is still a good OS it still has loads of compatibility problems that needs ironing out.
Failing that i could also switch over to Linux system, much easier and they are FREE too

My vote would be for Mandriva Linux but I would admit that it is not for everyone. I know several business users how originally installed Vista but have "downgraded" back to Windows XP Pro.
I think it's terrible that people should bully Microsoft!!! I don't know how I'm going to sleep at nights...

I have to agree. I was one of the first in the UK to get a Windows NT 4.0 system, and where others were complaining about reliability, my system was as solid as a rock. It wasn't cheap, but I only had 2 BSODs with it (one caused by a dodgy driver, the other by a loose cable). You usually get what you pay for.
Am I allowed to mention Macs so soon? There was a learning curve, but not too steep, and I've been very happy with the decision to switch.

I'm sticking with XP for now it does everything i need. I don't think Linux or any of the other operating systems wll ever really be mainstream. Let's face it, if someone cant run a Windows macchine properly what hope have they to run the likes of Linux?
