Default Blackberry Bold 3… living with it

I’ve been using this Bold since Wednesday, and after the trouble I had getting it set-up I was starting with an emotional deficit, despite its drop-dead good looks. However, having got beyond those teething problems thanks to a helpful lady at Vodafone, I’m able to just use it now.

The email pops effortlessly into my mailbox despite the fact I haven’t signed up for a separate Blackberry package, and that was a pleasant surprise. I have been amazed how much of the functionality of it I have been using. Wandering around Exeter cathedral this weekend, we could wiki its history, ditto for Lyme Regis and the Cobb. The internet response is not lightning fast but is genuinely useful and usable. Having worked out how to use the voice dialling system (you have to use the full name of the person as typed and add the type of connection you wish to use, such as ‘mobile’) it works very well.

This weekend away I used the camera for some pretty good photos, the mobile net, email on the move, posted a blog from it, and wrote a word document (you have to save a blank document to the phone from your computer to be able to edit it as it won’t allow you to create new documents unless you buy the full version of the free software).

It sits nicely in my hand, is easy to hear both on the call and when it rings, has a really great speaker phone and the media player for both sound and vision is very good.

I’m half way through my trial period and really loving it.

I've used blackberrys on and off for about four years now - my first was 7290 which boasted a colour screen (just) and was a brick and a half.. but a reliable brick with a great battery life. The next was a Perl, which put me off blackberry for a bit, and then the Curve came out, which put me back on to blackberrys, although I did break three of them and I felt the build wasn't as robust as the 7290 was.. I'm currently using an XDA orbit due to the fact I can demo software on it without needing a PDA, but as soon as the security side of things is 110% full time and IT consulting is a thing of the past, I'll be back to blackberrys.

I can't beleive I have become such a fan. I had a Windows smartphone before and thought that was good but the Bold is much faster slciker and way more capable in real life. It truly gives me the net in my pocket plus entertainment and a gps... not bad for free!!

Given that I've (thanks to Microsoft Project) taken a recent dislike to all things Microsoft, I'm torn between an iPhone and the BB Bold. I'm intrigued to hear about your blog post on the hoof. My current Windows Mobile device doesn't really lend itself to decent (and quick) writing on a touch screen which is why I'm a little nervous about the iPhone. How's the battery life?

The keyboard is very useable and the best I have had yet (I had a Windows Smartphone witha querty board before). The screen is great. I dock it every night so can't say how long hte battery lasts beyond a day, but mine registers aound 50% battery at the end of theday on light use but in a poor singal area.

I gather hte iphone is best forthe web if you are a heavy user, but the Bold is the best business phone and great if emai letc are your main concern.

It is still my bewst phone ever adn perhapsthe highest praise I can offer is saying, that I can't imagine buying any other brand now.

My other half has a blackberry. I stick with my iPhone (although I'll admit the camera isn't great!) Does everything I need. I do think blackberry's are getting better though.

I have no probs using an iPhone for email - and it has 6 accounts on it and all work very well.

Default A long time coming

With a busy 6 months behind me I've finally made my choice and moved to an iPhone. The simple advice from me to anyone wanting a communications tool that just works is get an iPhone. You won't regret it.
