Question New Firefox out woohoo, but is it just Chrome with bells on?

I've just downloaded Firefox 3.5 this morning and to be honest there doesn't appear to be a great deal of difference between it and 3.0. One thing that did make me smile though is the private mode, which is great but isn't that what Chrome did 6 months ago?

Does anybody prefer Chrome? (bit to minimal for me) Or is Firefox still the best?

Default Firefox is still the best...

Personally, i have been using firefox for many years now and still believe that it is the best browser out there.

From a web developer's point of view (mine), it conforms to all the web standards, and has a rapid development cycle compared to other browsers. To the average folk, this simply means that any bugs or performance issues can be solved much quicker than any other browser.

Firefox is also customisable, unlike many other browsers. Although you could argue it's value, for me, i am able to install tools that assist the development i do, without having to open other programs.

On the flip side, i do also like chrome and safari, but Firefox still wins over for me...

According to Cnet "built-in video; local storage to enable richer Web applications that can work even with no network connection; a private browsing mode; geolocation to aid Web pages that can benefit from knowing a user's location; and faster performance loading pages and executing Web-based JavaScript programs." are the main modifications from 3.0 though having had a quick play on it earlier, I can’t see too much difference on the surface.

I've always been a fox man personally, would agree that Chrome is a bit bare for my liking though guess it's a personal preference one- my colleagues still maintain a belief in IE...

Gah! Still believe in IE. Would you leave the door of your house open??? No? Then why leave the door into your computer open, by using IE??

Use an open source web browser with regular bug fixes...

This may sound a little naive and to be fair I've not used IE for years now, but wasn't the newest version supposed to be much safer?

It's not naive, but unfortunately MS do not ever sort all the security issues of their software, look at windows as an example. Instead of fixing the issues, they spend more money on advertising to make you think it's solved.. Reminds me of my favourite "Im a mac, im a pc" ad :

I've not seen that one before, but I think the ads with Mitchel and Webb are comedy gold. I think most of them are here, I love the Japanese printer ad, made me chuckle anyroad

Let's remember that 99% of security issues, in fact any issues, are caused by the action or inaction of the user.

Re browsers, I've used Firefox, Chrome, Safari - hate all of them.

I've just upgraded to FF3.5 (FF is my favourite, although I use the whole range of browsers for testing - depending on what the client wants).

1. It broke the HttpWatch plugin (thats OK 'cos I was meaning to uninstall that anyway)

2. It broke the Google Gears plugin (this is very annoying, as it means no more offline gmail for me)

3. It's a lot faster (always good)

On the whole - mostly positive!

My only gripe with Firefox 3.5 is I seem to have trouble hitting the enter after typing an address in the web address bar now and have to hit the green arrow.. so frustrating.
