Default Internet connection

Did somebody come across a similar situation? Sometimes I am unable to connect to the internet (am using BT Broadband), but if I call BT to check the broadband network usually there is no problem and after hanging up the phone the connection resumes. Last time it started to work just after I hung up the telephone without even making a phone call. Could somebody be misusing my internet connection e.g. my IP address?
Thanks for any advice.

Hi there

Sounds like a problem with wiring or interference as you said that it worked after you hung up the phone. I would ring tech support again and tell them it works intermittently. They may do an engineer visit. However, if the problem is internal wiring then not sure whether they can do anything.

Also, have you tried connecting the modem / router to the main BT socket in your house? If you have another modem / router you can try, that might help rule certain things out.

I am with BT Broadband and every time my mother in law rang me I lost connection. When searching on Google for solutions it appears you just need to change the channel on your router, apparently there are about ten to choose from. Worked for me.

Thanks guys,

Definitely I will look into changing the channel, interesting how mothers in law sometimes interfere
If not, I will call the tech support although from my past experience I am not very keen to do so...

Default Wireless Router Interfearance

Other sources of interference with Wireless routers are: TV remotes, microwave ovens, cordless phones, bluetooth devices, and other wireless gear i.e. wireless routers in neighboring houses etc. It’s a good idea like [hlsbs] mentioned to change the default channel, I have found that this often helps solve intermittent problems.

Another problem that I have found whilst out and about support my clients is the use of low quality telephone extention cables that connect the ADSL router to the telephone socket.

It seems like the mystery is solved. I called BT and the next day my internet was again up and running without any problems. I haven’t changed anything at home so the problem must have been somewhere else.

Thanks a lot for your time anyway.

Hi,

Often this means that you have a dead ADSL micro filter, or one missing somewhere. Don't forget that every telephone point connected to that line must have a microfilter connected before the telephone handset.
