I think it is MS's way of shouting to the world another user has signed up.
If they buy Omega though, it probably won't be long before watches are trained to send twitter messages to your outlook contacts that you have bought a new watch
Yes it's willy waving to some degree, but also useful for the recipient to know, as replies are usually sparse and may contain typos. If they know it's coming from a mobile device, they are usually more tolerant.
I quite like the iphones, but I think there's better out there to do the same thing - they were too long releasing it and the fact that the first generation one was inferior technology to everything that was coming out didn't help...

the storm? its crap, i tried one one that my mate has and the touch screen doesn't work properly and the buttons are too small and i have small hands.
I have an iPhone and I deleted that message, however when I do get messages from people that say "sent from iphone/blackberry" etc at least you know they are on the go and not in the office and in that canse one can be forgiving if the message is very short and sweet.
I think its is just added advertising by the manufacurer, like the nokia ringtone.
When I first got my iPhone I left that activated as it was new and all that jazz and I, errm, wanted to show off! Didn't take me long to delete it though!
