In short, it's not a career you can just dive into without some knowledge of what your doing. As mentioned in the other thread though, there are other ways of bringing in an income through the internet, but be wary of anyone who asks for cash with the promise of you making money!

Like all things, the top 10% make very good money! The average make ok money. The bottom few go broke.

To learn to do this well requires much more than picking up basic CSS, html, java, .net etc (not an exhaustive list!!). You need to acquire an understanding of e commerce, which requires an understanding of non e commerce!. The top people understand business, and marketing and how to technically make it all happen.

Its a big topic, and if well mastered, interesting and rewarding. Like everying, more effort = more reward.

And I forgot to mention the laying in the sea fully clothed!!

I know several who earn 50K/year working for small sized businesses. Oddly I don't know many who make that who are working for themselves - but then they don't usually talk about it.
If you want to do any training I'd recommend that you start with the books MySQL for dummies and PHP for dummies - It would give you a good start.

regards
James.

I'd say 50k per year for an established freelance web designer is probably about average.
