Default Google is top of the superbrands

Google has become the UK's top brand in a consumer survey.

The Internet search engine beat Microsoft into second place in the Superbrands survey of professionals. Car manufacturer Mercedes Benz was third, with the BBC and British Airways completing the top five.

No supermarket group made it into the top 100 superbrands, as rising food costs are believed to have hit their popularity. Asda fell 253 places, Tesco 230 and Sainsbury's 194. However, Marks and Spencer was still in the top 20.

Stephen Cheliotis, chairman of the Superbrands Council, said:

"It is clear that Google is a brand that people value at work and in their personal lives."

That really surprises me too. And I am amazed that Tesco featured so badly, even given the rising food prices.

Where did Amazon feature?

It is according to United States Patent and Trademark Office Home Page and UK Intellectual Property Office... Unless I'm missing something?

Were these supposed to be the top ten UK brands? How come there are seven brands from foreign shores?

These kind of lists are pretty pointless really. You can easily influence the results by being selective with what you ask or even who.

Bosch? Hmmmmm.
