Default IPO changes 'shameful' logo

The Intellectual Property Office used to have such a god-awful logo that I recently felt compelled to write to them and ask just what they were thinking?; did they not think that their logo was a tad... "uncreative" and "non-innovative"...

It seems they listened - but alas, I never got the gig. Probably because I also said: 'are you taking the piss?'

Now, I just wonder how much they paid for the new one? Probably tens of thousands, I'll bet. It's a fine logo, don't get me wrong - but I would question the spacing and overall arrangement - it lets it down badly.

Hmmmm Mark I see what you mean it almost looks like two seperate logos...

I would have put the circle creation under the "AL" somehow - just a personal thought.

Perhaps less profanities when pitching your services??

It was more of a wake-up call than a pitch. At the time, I was quite incensed by it to be honest.

I'm only too aware though that government depts don't hire independents as a rule - so not much lost there.

Think how much of our money the government would save if they did use more people like Mark in a lot of areas. They'd get a better service from the smaller outfits too.

Maybe I'll run for PM to try and make it happen : )

They could save fortunes. But saving money is NOT part of the government agenda.

They could, however, look at it another way. If they used more small businesses, they could do much much more with their allocated budget.

And because that money would be more likely to stay in the UK, it would help the economy.....many big corporations move their profits around the world to pay tax in the place of their choosing...I cant do that, I pay it here!

I'm aware of them but I'd like to see the breakdown of what they award to companies/corporates to what they award to sole traders/independents.

No biggie - I'm not losing any sleep over it.

They'll have paid tens of thousands - but you can guarantee the actual designer got paid buttons.

It was actually an attempt at self-depreciating humour, in that design agencies charge the earth and take all the credit, whilst designers are (sometimes) poorly paid to do the actual work.

Although the designer who came up with the London 2012 logo should have been paid in buttons.

If the designer wants to earn more, he or she should take the risk his boss did in order to employee him in the first place
