Default Equal

Do Women only networking clubs insult women in business? I ask the question as I don't see any difference between women or men in business. I can't understand why being a 'woman in business' is still a USP? Surely we're all educated enough to know that we are all equal.

I can never understand why groups demand equality then demand that they're recognised as different or somehow 'special'...

I would think that a lot of these initiatives are created because women tend to face a different set of obstacles to getting started in business, as a home based business myself with two children to care for I have different concerns to those that many men in business face. Working around childcare and school pick up times is something that mostly relates to women, although I acknowledge that there are also men out there running the home etc as well as a business.

I agree with partysprite, I think they exist because of the different obstacles (very generalised) that face women in business and personally I find that meeting with other women that face and understand similar issues helpful. Obviously I do meet with men to, but I'm sure that at those networking meetings most men wouldn't want those topics brought up. Yes things are changing but still very slowly, I have to run my business round my family as I have found it impossible to find decent childcare locally.

The one thing that bugs me about all of this - as a businessman!

There is an awful lot of help out there to get women into business, without you having to go looking for it! yet if your a man starting up in business there is a lot less help pushed into your face - its just get on with it then

What bugs me - is when we set up my business, me and my (now wife) tossed a coin over who would be director, and who secretary, I won (or lost depending on your point of view and am the Director.

However looking back, would our business have been in a better position should my wife been made the sole director due to these initiatives?

Surely this is sexual discrimination against males! I personally dont discriminate against race, gender, sexuality, age, shoe size, inside leg measurement or hair colour! I feel the biggest issue about a person is if they are a coffee or tea drinker

Ah, maybe it is area specific help, I was talking to our business link person the other day (who also happens to be a woman) and she didn't give me the impression that there was anything available, although probably too late for me as I'm already in business.
