Other Business Forums....
...just been dabbling and reading a few threads on a forum I used to frequent and have come running back! Its so full of nasty comments, spam and junk I really cant think why I used to go on there.
God it feels good to be back home where its safe again

That's what I always think. Sometimes I Google a question and invariably it pops up on that forum (I presume we mean the same one!) so I end up reading a few posts....and then leave.

These days I just stick to my two favourite ones and don't bother with the others. I just want to have a pleasant time online without all the hassles and nasty stuff.

What other Business Forums are out there then?
Surely there's a tipping point with forums/online communities whereby growth is offset by a perception of 'cliques', bitchiness and infighting?

My better half has registered on here, and noses through now and again, she fell on another forum the other day where a guy asked a question and was belittled by the other forum users because of his lack of knowledge, in my experience its the stupid people that do not ask questions, and the intelligent ones that do.
I have not had any of this on here, though I have had someone send me a snotty PM, and now they do not reply to anything I put on the forums but you find petty people all over, this forum has the least I have seen anywhere, people are quick to help here, whether it is in their interest or not, that is the purest measure of a person in my book.

No question is stupid - if *I* know the answer to it then I must have asked it too at sometime....

Sorry, I'm going to stick my neck out and disagree. I think there are stupid questions.
If someone has asked "How do I... " and the info is already there, it's been asked and answered, then why feel the need to ask the darned thing again? It's already there if you could only be bothered to read it. That's the trouble a lot of the time. People don't want to read. They just want to show up and be spoonfed right from the word go.

There are some lazy sods around that ask very simple questions that they could just as easily Google by the time they wrote a post, to be fair. It's almost like they want you to go and do it for them. I won't respond to questions that are too easy to find on the internet.

Gosh we are going to disagree on something
Why, as a new member, should I have to search through all the old threads to find the answer to my question? I'm a member, I want to be active, I have a question so why shouldn't I ask it? It's one of the things on forums that really get my back up. Sure point me in the right direction of where it has been asked before but don't lecture me on searching first!

Totally agree Adam.
We are all new somewhere at some point in our life. The mark of a good place is the welcome you get when you first arrive. The oldies may think it is tedious having similar questions asked over and over, but the new arrival is sincere, hopeful, full of enthusiam, and will permanently put off if a cranky oldie says go read this thread or that site and don't bother us when this has already been covered 100 times.
Really, how would any of us feel if that were the welcome we received?

OK, we'll have to agree to differ. But a lot of my mods and admins also become frustrated with the same thing, when it's clearly been answered before. It could even be a sticky on the same forum. All they have to do is seek and they will find.
It's the same with the posting rules and guidelines. They don't know what they are, because they didn't just take a few minutes to read them.
People often don't READ on the Internet, they show up and want you to spoonfeed them.

Careful guys,
you were on the verge of taking a UKBL thread into a ranting session!
There are 2 other Biz forums that I've used a fair amount:
************************
startups.co.uk
Both have some issues; StartUps gets a lot of one-post spamming & sometimes more questions than answers, & UKBF has some bunfighting & occasional entrepreneurial snobbery & the odd spam PM, but...
.. they both have some excellent members (luckily enough some of them are members here too) with quality advice, so there's a lot to get out of them.
They're both more established than UKBL, but as this place grows, the more varied the membership becomes, the more ideas flow & we're all the better for that.
Cheers.
Will

Because it was your first post the URL would have been stripped immediately even if it was a dummy address. It' the best way we've found to get rid of the Viagra peddlers et al...

As a couple of you might have noticed, I do use forums to an average extent! And you will probably know which ones, too.
Each I use for distinct reasons, but each does have its own character and style, arising from the community that arises, largely unplanned there. I like that about forums, and allowing it to happen is a key part of getting a successful one.

There seems to be allot less garbage on this forum (less back biting too) - I'm fairly sure i know the forum that's being talked about and in my opinion it was once a pretty informative and helpful forum - not any more.

At least the third time this mysterious forum has been mentioned in this thread. Any clues as to who we're talking about?

I think generall whichever forum you are on there are usually some really helpful people out there who are willing to help. Any forum is going to get the odd person who may get your back up....you just have to ignore or deal with it the same as you would in your ordinary life!
