Default What time do you start work everyday?

This article by the Guardian makes for an interesting read - Worried office workers start earlier

It reckons employees are panicking about redundancies and choosing to get into work earlier to impress the boss.

What time do you start work each day and what's the earliest time you've ever gotten into the office?

I try and start by 9am each day but with our National Office Week 2009 campaign looming its been getting much earlier because there's so much to plan - today it was 6.30am (and I'm not a morning person)!

Ouch Kim, it's not about the early starts- i'm like a grizzly awoken from hibernation untill the hour gets to double figures!

Officially I should be at my desk by 9 but must admit with the current climate I have been finding myself getting in at 8, having breakfast Al Desko and working through a few none time critical bits & bobs before 9- figured i'd rather lose an hour in bed than an hour of my evening, oh and keep in the MD's good books!

I tend to be an early bird anyway, so have been known to start at about 6am though it's not an everyday occurence! My hubby is out of the house by 6.30am to travel 100 miles to work, so if I'm awake I'll get cracking, then finish earlier...

If I go to the office (business centre full of small businesses) before 9am I usually have to open up

Well I've always liked to start early and then finish early (although it does not always end up that way) but I normally start about 8am each day.

I start somewhere between 6 and 7:30 am, it's nice and quiet that time of the morning.

Plenty of early birds then!

Must admit I sometimes prefer early mornings or weekends in the office when it is quieter. I seem to get so much more done without the distractions!

For me there are no issues of a busy office, since I work at home.

I usually try to do most of my work in the evening or on my days off - since University is normally only 3-4 days a week, but for whole days at a time.

Working in the evenings is good for me as although I can do earlies, I seem to concentrate better after about 2pm

This morning, Sunday, I was in my office soon after 06:30. Not to do any work, but to check on personal e-mails and stuff. Have you guessed? Yes, I work from home which makes it really difficult to take part in things like cycle to work day

Generally I get into my office soon after seven each morning, and plan the rest of my day. I sometimes work late into the evening but usually try to finish by 19:00. It's not work all the way through. That's the advantage of being self-employed. No bosses to impress

Like many I work from home and try to start by 8.30am and finish by 5.50pm - however, it does depend on when the dog decides she wants to get up in the morning! If she needs to go out earlier, I will start work earlier and I do tend to get more done when the phones are not ringing.

I will also work slightly longer if hubby hasn't got home by the time 5.30 arrives and will work through until he does.

Having said that, not all of that time is spent on client work and I do find I get distracted with various forums I belong to.......

Somewhere between 9.30am and 10am after my school run.

I work from home so can start when I want but I'm not naturally an early riser, I've never got to my office before 9am even when I didn't have to do a school run when my daughter was a baby.

I'm a night owl. I start work by 9.30am - work until 2.30pm (then fetching kids again) and then work again usually between about 5pm and 8pm

Sometimes I work til 9/10pm at night depending on workload or how much I excessively sneak downstairs between 5pm and 8pm to chat to my husband and kids!

I typically don't go to bed until 12.30/1am most nights so even if I didn't have to do the school run I still wouldn't get in the office before 9am because I don't like sleeping early - and of course then I don't want to get up early.

I have later body schedule ... to the extent that even if I had four hours sleep one night, I still wouldn't want to sleep until midnight/1am the following night. It's just the natural time I like to sleep at night. I actually have to force myself to sleep at that time, often I'm tempted to stay up later than 1am.

Working from home for myself it is usually between 7am and 9 am depending on dog walking and client meetings for that day!
I like to start early and finish at 5pm - though I am always on my laptop or blackberry up until 10pm as most of my business is done by email!
If not doing anything on Sunday I like to work all morning - that way I can take it really easy on Monday morning, go swimming etc - it just beats that "Monday morning" feeling!

I'm another one that works from home running my own website so no boss to worry about. I work all sorts of weird hours depending on how busy my site is, what my kids have got after school and also what mood I'm in. I'm a night owl so I often work late but no 2 days are the same. I spent nearly 9 years working for a large company where a lot of clock watching and trying to impress went on - happy to be out of that now.

I like getting up early so try to be at my desk by 8 at the latest...but that said I do like to go wandering and take the dog walking so the earlier I start the less guilty I feel about taking the mutt out.

I'm another work from home bod... so with my first cup of tea of the day - 7.15ish - I'm checking emails and planning my day. Dogs and animals (goats, chickens, cats and llamas) all need feeding and sorting out, and am back in the office proper at about 9.00am!

I find it very hard to get going in the morning, my head usualy starts working around 1-2pm and I'm quite happy to go on till gone midnight if I need to. Saying that, if I have to get up early to go and photograph something I'm wide awake.

Depends

today for example I was leaving the house at 6:20 for a 6:45am meeting. Normally I'm in front of my computer dealing with emails & stuff by 7:30am

For years I've joked that I start work at 7:309 and wake up at 9:30 :-)

I usually finish work around 6pm, unless I'm out at an evening meeting then it can be as late as 10:30

Whenever i have too !

Usually i get up around 6.30 and get ready then start work at home until i go into the office at 9. Usually leave at 5 then go home and work for a couple more hours until everything i need to do is finished.( i dont like putting things off until tomorrow )

I have also forgotton what a bank holiday or weekend feels like, i have vague memories of having the odd extra day off school but thats about it.

Going on holiday though in a few weeks ! yippee . And the missus says the laptops staying at home this time !

Oh, all too early for me! 8.30 is the time I'm at my desk, after a morning bike ride or walk through the poppy fields, then home for brekkie and a good cup of tea! Working from home definitely has it's bonuses!

I'm much worse after 2pm - I seem to hit that 'slump in the afternoon' phase despite avoiding pasta for lunch!

It's frightening how early some of you lot get up! I aim to start at 10, but often get in a little later. I usually head home at around 5, though if I'm feeling keen I'll stay and write an article or tidy the office!

I'm sure I'll be having a very similar conversation with hubby in August

They are right though - if you don't relax on holiday there's no point going...

I start around 8am and finish usually around 6.30pm but sometimes later, sometimes certain projects/deadlines mean I'll work weekends (quite rare now though). In the past I've worked til 2/3am on pitches/tight deadlines but I haven't done that for awhile now.
