i start work at 9am, although most of the mornings are spent researching the industry and answering phone calls etc.
I then work through till when im finished on a job, and then work on some internal projects which are usually at a more relaxed pace
but as a rule, i try not to do any coding before lunch as it is of a much poorer quality

Well National Office Week is almost over and I'm well and truly ready for a lie in tomorrow.
Heaven.

This made me laugh - although I know how you feel.
I have sat puzzled (on more than one occasion) for hours in the morning over why my web site wasn't doing what I wanted it to, only to find that in my tiredness I had missed out a $ sign somewhere not even that difficult to spot the error!

Well I'm in France and don't start 14 minutes late that's for sure
Usually I'm at my desk with a coffee around 7.30am (6.30 UK time) - then I take my dog for a walk about 8.30 for an hour, and back at my desk for 9.30. This gives me half an hour to catch up on any emails that have come in since I left, and be ready to start properly at 9am UK time.
But the majority of my productive work is done in the evening when the emails have stopped coming in, the phones are quiet, and I can just stick my headphones on and get on with it!

Normally by 7am at the latest, although it varies a little bit depending on how successful I am at getting out of bed early - this is not one of my strong points!

Wow..so many of you are early starters...good for you.
I'm a 9am-5.30pm person..only sometimes (depending on when I need to get home) it can be 6 or 7pm. I prefer working late than starting early.

It really depends on what work is next. Usually by the time I've had breakfast and walked the dogs it's getting on for 9am.

I love the comment from Mark about breakfast Al Desko, thats the first time I have heard that one. Because my laptop is wireless I can start work wearing pyjamas and still in my sunny bedroom enjoying the first of many coffees of the day but on most days I have to be there by 8.45.

Lots of people say that. They hear things like:
"I work from home - mostly."
"I can start when I like and finish when I like."
"I don't have a boss - just clients!"
And gush about how wonderful it must be. Don't get me wrong. I love it - but I rarely say:
"Some days, I don't get out of the home office at all!"
"I work at least 12 hours most week days!"
"Clients can be worse than bosses, sometimes!"
Ah, perspective, how we love thee.

I definitely find productivity is much higher outside "normal" office hours. I get most of my paperwork (leftovers, etc) done around 6am at the moment, then try to get a couple of "solid" hours in before everyone else starts...

What time do you start work each day and what's the earliest time you've ever gotten into the office?
I try and start by 9am each day but with our National Office Week 2009 campaign looming its been getting much earlier because there's so much to plan - today it was 6.30am (and I'm not a morning person)!

Generally I begin about 7-7.30am, breakfast and first coffee around 9. I finish when the mrs starts hovering artound me at about 8-9pm, with fags and coffee sprinkled through the day and will generally meet the wife for half an hour around lunch!

For me it varies between half 6 and 10am... I work from home as well so I benefit from not having to drive everywhere - Only to meet clients or mates or shopping (Oh wait we get that delivered)

Computer goes on at 7am, working on and off all day until computer goes off at around 11. When you run a business from home like ours you can get calls and emails at all times and we try and reply asap. You know how it goes (no pain no gain)

Early
I try to go for a walk/run about 8am for 30-40 minutes first then I start crack on 9am. I find that I am more productive if I exercise first thing in the morning. But I do work late as well mainly to sort out paperwork etc.

Me too. Gym first thing in the morning and I'm sorted for the rest of the day! as long as I remember to eat plenty afterwards!

It depends for me. Around 10am for me, which is when i'll check e-mails and reply to any.
Then it's getting caught up on any outstanding work that client's have requested from the previous evening. Many of my clients are hotels, so they're often on a 3-11pm shift, so i'm flexible around them, usually working til 6pm - 7pm (with plenty of breaks in between), mainly because i'm browsing the web/on twitter staying up to date with social media news.

If I am at the day job 9-5 then I tend to start work for myself at 7.30am for an hour, and will often log on when I get home and do a couple of hours then as well. If its one of the days I am working from home this tends to be dictated by whether small child is at school or not, if she is at Grandmas then probably 8.30am start, if she is at school normally 9.30 start. On days where I need to pick her up from school she goes to breakfast club at 8am so I start about 8.15am, work through lunch, and pick her up at 3.
I guess a relevant question would be what time do people finish work as well? Some nights it can be ten pm for me depending on where I have been working that day.

For the last few weeks I've worked from 6.30am to midnight
It's worth it because I'm puting a lot of plans in place for later in the year, and I do tend to take a couple of hours out in the afternoon to go mooch in the garden, go shopping or whatever.
I much prefer working early morning and evenings than during 'working hours' - I get loads more done!

I agree with Nikki about getting more work done "out of hours", I have found that to be relevant whatever job I have worked at. I find it so frustrating when placing calls for one Client and the offices have shut at 5pm though!! I guess that like a lot of people I never switch off, even on Friday when I was supposedly on holiday and wasn't able to access my email via my ipod touch as there is no wireless in the car (now there is a market opportunity I suspect!), I remembered I could access google email from my phone (its okay I was the passenger) and managed to resolve several enquiries on route!!
And if anyone wants to come up with wireless for the car I want a commission for suggesting it, lol!!
