Default BE AWARE! Dodgy looking Paypal email.

Hi everyone,

Just to inform you all of a dodgy looking Paypal email I received this morning.

Although the sender was named as a Garet Helmes, which I thought odd!

The email mentioned that I had to confirm my bank details in which to activate access again to my Paypal account.

At this point I didn't think this was dodgy, all I saw was the part I just mentioned above about accessing my account again. I didn't think to go directly to Paypal. DOH! It's Saturday morning.

Anyway when I clicked on the link to 'activate my access', by confirming my bank details associated with Paypal, I didn't see anything untoward. There were Paypal icons and basically looked okay. So I began filling out my bank details until I reached 'Your 4 digit pin'. No bank account confirmation requires this especially online. That I know of, so I didn't continue to fill it in. I went to my Paypal account and everything is fine I didn't need to confirm my bank details at all.

So basically what I am saying is BEWARE!

Anyway I hope the above makes sense?

Regards

Jason

Yeah I get these all the time. They get instantly deleted. They are easy to spot, as they never address you by name, they just say "Dear Paypal Member" or something similar.
I'm really surprised you even clicked the link. Have you not seen the endless news stories about Phishing emails that attempt to get your bank details using exactly this method?

PayPal phishing has been going on for many years, as has the "im the son of the oman" type email.

my advice is never click and email link...always type it directly. paypal recently started the idea to help that if they send an email with change of charges (as with google) they will put a note when you login to their site. which you will need to dismiss or it will just continue to appear and warn you of changes.

just remember the normal rules of the internet,
If you didnt enter it you cant have won it.
Your bank does not need your help.
Neither does Paypall, Ebay or any other site that you might use.
There is no £23 million left in an unidentified account and you will certainly not get 10% of it just for giving them your account details, you will however lose everything that you give them access to.
The sick child who has just days to live and so needs £1.00 of you money to help his relatives is now a multi millionaire, has paid for a miracle cure and strangely enought was never really sick in the first place.
Just use normal common sense rules, you wouldnt give a bloke in the street you bank cards and passwords would you.
You would, well its about time I introduced you to this very valuable mining stock which I will sell you for just £1 per share, (Ive got 1milliion shares)
