Toughest Challenge in Setting up your own business?

What is your toughest challenge you have faced so far in setting up your business?

For me it has to be, being the jack of all trades within the business, I come from a technical background, doing the Website Builds, Search Engine Optimisation and running the PPC campaigns - however since starting up on my own i have had to do the following as well!

Sales
Accounts
More Time Management than I would like
Company Director
More things than i care to think about

but by far the hardest im finding, is the Sales role!

What about you? What was your background prior to going into business and what did you find the hardest?

Bureaucracy!

For me that is ALWAYS he biggest headache!

It is was an eye opener when I launched the business 3 years ago and had to learn to be jack of all trade. I came from marketing/ecommerce/sales background so could apply those skills straight away, but then to have to learn about law, book-keeping, SEO/SEM, customer service was a real challenge. But I really love learning new things so it was great anyway but hard. Now I outsource SEO, accounting and other work when I need them to make it easier for me to focus on the strategy and improvement of the business.

Exposure !

As a new business the hardest thing i found was getting initial customers, we entered a already saturated market and found it hard at the beginning, many products sold at a loss to build up a customer base. We only made a profit once we had customers and could go to our suppliers with greater buying power.

i would say now five years into the business if we were to do it again there would be many things i would we would do differently, but hey you live and learn.
