Default www.1lessjob.com is launched

the site is functional, yes there are still improvements to be made, some of which we know, some which we don't. We're going for the free approach (like yahoo, google etc.) because we'll be able to provide targeted advertising. I am just one guy (doing the coding in my free time) with a business partner who is concentrating on the marketing. Your input would be appreciated.

To be honest, I haven't had much time to look.

The layout/etc are OK - in terms of useability, you probably need to sit down and do some testing yourself (possibly split testing as to how long it takes people to do things with adjusted layouts) - e.g. I'd prefer more visible login/logout links, etc.

Overall - it's a good idea (though more of a spin on an old idea, rather than a whole new one) - but you may struggle in terms of getting the traffic and throughput - and building up the trust of users when you have relatively few is difficult sometimes!

Good luck, though

yes, if people are willing to do the work for commission they can bid on the job, I'd select a per item or per lot bid.

Clean site, hardly any jobs on it therefore I would presume not much traffic.

What are your plans for building traffic and getting more jobs on board?

indeed, the traffic is lower than I'd hoped it would be, we've gone down the social networking route so far, we were thinking of google ads as well. Honestly thought the £250 prize for a you tube video would do a lot better than it has but I guess it's still early days. Of course I'm always open to new ideas.

Viral marketing is hard to get started, and although £250 is an OK prize, if you don't have the traffic then not many people will see it - chicken and egg unfortunately

This may help:

Hello 1less.job

Having a similar kind of site can i suggest that you take the register form off your site for the consumer. In my experience the consumer does not like to register and they do not like to login.
They don't mind filling in a job ticket provided its quick thats why we put the text a member for free service on our site.
Keep the process of posting a job quick and simple.

Does your site send instant sms text or email alerts to members when a job has been posted if not you are going to have a lot of headaches notifying every member of a certain trade type by phone and emails as soon as a job is posted.

I don't mind giving you this info albeit your possible future competition
Here are some of best trade sites for you to have a look at they might give you some ideas www.trades4work.com Welcome to trust a trader.com - The UK's premier trades services directory www.ukconsumerprotectionagencey.co.uk My Builder - Find local builders and tradesmen, get great quotes Courier Exchange: The Leading Freight Exchange Website for the Courier and Express Freight Industry mtvan - the courier work exchange and sameday courier networking website

1 Less, I am please to say i have listed a job on your website, and I like the feel of it, easy to navigate and feels professional, good format, and did not ask me for any details to personal, set it for 7 days, lets see how it goes.

Well Done on a cracking site!
