Default Some advice for people looking for reviews

This isn't aimed at anyone in particular, and isn't just related to this forum, as I see the same all over the place.

Just a few guidelines that might help you to help yourself

1) If someone has gone out of their way to try and review your site and help you (for FREE!!!), it is polite to thank them - this doesn't have to be in the full glare of the public forum, a PM will do.

2) If someone has given you (FREE!!!) their professional knowledge and opinion, then arguing with them probably isn't the best way to get them to help you in the future. If any of your sentences in reply to them start 'Yeah, but...' then it's probably best to rethink.

3) If someone gives you some (FREE!!!) advice, and you come back and say 'Yeah but I've tried that already' or 'That's on the list to do' - maybe look at your original post - if you didn't mention it there then how would the advice giver know?

4) Leave your ego at the door. If enough people tell you there is something wrong, there probably is. Getting all defensive and arsey about it doesn't make them want to help you (for FREE!!!) again in the future.

5) If you come in here with a home made website, someone WILL tell you that it looks like a home made website. Sorry, but that's what happens when you ask for a website review in a forum containing graphic and web designers.

6) If you think the tone of this post is quite negative, you should see what I wrote BEFORE I had my coffee

Actually Nikki makes some very good points there. In fairness to our participating members, our policy here is to delete the threads, posts, signatures and profile information of members who don't participate and the website reviews section is no exception. It's quite obvious when someone is simply dropping links for SEO purposes! This is ok in itself (we all do it) but at least don't make it so obvious by disappearing once you've posted!

So, please have the courtesy to reply to those who are giving their time and valuable advice to you free of charge.
