Default Wordpress Training Day course feedback required

I am thinking about running a one day wordpress course aimed at small business owners who wan to build their own sites and web designers who want to offer Wordpress Solutions to clients:

Which would include this:

Installation of Wordpress

Using Themes - Where to get premium themes. Things to look out for with free themes. Get your own theme build.

Using Plugins - the 10 plugins your site must have in order for it to rank in Google

Creating Corporate sites from Wordpress

Adding Content

Timestamping - Put content on autopilot

The 5 things you must not do before your wordpress site is ready to go

Bonuses
  • Complete start to finish checklist for installing Wordpress
  • Tools for managing a network of sites for your clients
  • Using Wordpress to run a newsletter
  • 10 other website projects using Wordpress

Cost would be £199 plus VAT to be held in Rochester,Kent at Training Centre (10am to 4pm) with Lunch!

What do you think? Did I miss anything - any burning issues you need covering?

Any feedback greatly appreciated.

yeah, you're talking about things that business owners wouldn't have a clue about. Anyone who knows what a WP plugin is will be able to suss it out without your training. Your selling features not benefits.

If your target market is web novices you need to sell the benefits only and lose the plugins, themes, etc.

Default Braindump

Thanks...

Yes this was an initial braindump not a sales pitch.

I was trying to see if the actual content suggested above would be meaningful. Some times these things sound good in my head.

ah right, sorry I thought this was the content you would put out on the advert.

ok, well if this is literally how to set up WP you wont be going into other areas like keyword research, page optimisation and and wep page copywriting. Another session how actually what to put in would be useful. No good having learning to create a WP website if they fill it with junk.

Default what about further north?

If you were running this in the midlands I'd be interested.

Sadly, although Kent is the garden county, it's a little far for a course.

If you did you would be ahead of most course organizers.

I am in the East Midlands but rarely are any courses of substance and interest held any nearer than Birmingham or Sheffield

As someone that works with Wordpress sites a lot, I would say that all you're offering is something that comes natural to me.
When I go through the demo with clients they are simply not interested in WHY or HOW it works, they just want to see that IT WORKS.

Although I think you're on the right track offering it to SME's etc, I think you'll need to present something along the lines of "You've got a Wordpress site ... now what?" if you know what I mean.

Default Re: WordPress training courses

I know this is an old thread but I hope you will forgive me as I am a new member (well, haven't really contributed since joining in Feb)...

I run one-day WordPress training courses. They are ideal for beginners.

The next course is in Northampton on November 18th. Price: £175

For more information please take a look at: davcomedia.co.uk

Many thanks.

I wish more people would use Concrete5 rather than WordPress!

Controversial I know but I think Concrete5 is far more user friendly.

Before I get grilled... I've worked with many CMSs professionally for about 6 years and I'm often asked to make changes for clients to their own WordPress websites, even by tech-savvy clients because they can't figure out how to do it.

However I've built Concrete5 sites for many clients, all of whom have been able to edit their sites straight away with no training and very occasional help from me!
