Just had it happen to me ... carefully crafted weasel words, foolishly didn't CTRL-A CTRL-C, started adding some tags ... everything vanished and couldn't be brought back.
Presumably should have previewed first; I'll try and reproduce the effect when I have a moment.
Mark tells me it's quite common across forums. We're not sure whether it's a server-side or client-side issue but it's always best practice to copy before previewing or submitting.
