This is awesome:

I see those types every day, which is why I don't really get on with it all that much.

What's your annoyance on Facebook?

Businesswise, the same thing. People seem to think there's a knack to getting fans, likes, etc. In reality, it's all about the content. If people like it, they'll like it. If they're a fan, they'll become a fan.

On a personal level, Facebook frightens me in the extreme. I know a few people who treat Facebook like their own MI5 file - which they dutifully update several times a day. And that's just the public bit. Christ knows how many of their 'private' conversations are logged on a server somewhere!

I have a Facebook page which I use purely to spread the name and get some sort of recognition brand wise, I also use it to "polish up" my antenatal skills and keep them fresh. What narks me is the amount of people joining up to spam the page with advertising their baby gifts, second hand sales sites and general tat! If I don't advertise why should they be able to...Grr...
But otherwise I find that using Facebook in this way is working just as doc ordered for building awareness before I go nationwide with antenatal classes. Just takes a lot of time.

It is annoying; our page is 'open' for comments but people just spam it. They're promptly reported to Facebook though.

I agree completely with Mat. As long as you have a quality offering and something that people respond to, they will naturally 'like' it anyway.

Being a photographer, Facebook helps me to promote my work. As it is visual and personal to me, anyone could just contact me and/or look around at my work. I think kind of tells them that I am a real person and people that I photograph are also real people and not some kind of models. I often become friends with people I photographed and often they are tagged at my Facebook portfolio.

On the other hand I do receive a lot of emails for events, and get my name tagged on some promotional material. I absolutely think it is rude to leave marketing materials on my personal wall though. Some I think have not shame Anyway, I guess there are good abd bad things that I cant do much about.

I do wonder if spamming up facebook is counterproductive as it reeks of desperation.

I wonder how many people have become a client/customer of a business simply by following a social media post?
