I'm with the people that found it useful. Not got one for my business yet but set up a few for others and it worked as a traffic generator. Giving out information, advice, event dates etc, getting discussion going and then feeding that back to your site. It's the interaction element and the massive massive user base that make it useful. Personally I'd always keep work and business separate coz I don't want to bore friends (or scare clients). And I'd also make sure that you can commit to it timewise because you need to work at it. If you're not on there 'directing the action' as it were then it will die.

We haven't started promoting our business on social networking sites yet, but it is something we intend to do. I'm not entirely sure just how much revenue it'll bring in, but I suppose it all helps.

As far as facebook goes I've been using it socially for years, although less recently as the most obscure people from my childhood, that I hardly remember, keep wanting to be friends with me.

I'm going to study your pages as you seem to have FB nailed quite well. Are those 2 completely separate accounts or is one a Fan page of the other?

How did you get a "vanity URL" for the business account?

Hi Footscray,

I'm aware of private users being able to have vanity URLs - I have one. But businesses have to have a large number of fans before they can have a vanity URL for their page. It was reduced to 25 for about a day, but I missed the boat & only heard about that afterwards.

I'm wondering if the other people on this thread are aware of FB's T&C

Quote:
Please be aware that managing multiple accounts is a serious violation of Facebook’s Terms of Use. If we determine that an individual has more than one account, we reserve the right to terminate all of their accounts.
and elsewhere:

Quote:
Maintaining multiple accounts, regardless of the purpose, is a violation of Facebook’s Terms of Use. If you already have a personal account, then we cannot allow you to create business accounts for any reason.
It sounds a bit wacky because taken literally it means that if someone sets up a business account for their employer they then aren't allowed to have an account themselves.

Just one little word of advice with FaceBook do not past too much on your wall as the site is mainly social and you will become the virtual equivalent of the pub bore.

My strategy is to post my weekly blog posts to the wall coupled with occasional news items. Here is the link for the Marketing Difference FaceBook page.
