Arrow You're no-one if you're not on Twitter...

Thanks to the fab The Next Web for bringing a smile to my face with this great audio file.

The songwriter's website is here.

Lyrics:

You're no one if you're not on Twitter
And if you aren't there already you've missed it
If you haven't been bookmarked, retweeted and blogged
You might as well not have existed

In the old days it was all about achievements
Collecting all your trophies in a shrine
Then everybody came across the internet
And suddenly you had to be online

A home page was all you really needed
To seem like a success but not a geek
As long as you updated semi-annually
And checked your email once or twice a week

You're no one if you're not on Twitter...

Technology was moving rather quickly
And the next thing you needed was a blog
With intimate and detailed press releases
And now and then a photo of your dog

More recently the students brought us Facebook
And everybody has a hundred friends
The parties in the photos look amazing
They're not so great but everyone pretends

You're no one if you're not on Twitter...

Now you need to publish every movement
And every single thought to cross your mind
I'm told the Twitterverse is full of rubbish
But most of us are actually quite refined

We validate each other's insecurities
And brag about the gadgets that we've bought
We laugh out loud at every hint of jolliness
And try to self-promote without being caught

You're no one if you're not on Twitter...

Nikki converted me to Twitter, amongst other things.

This site is very interesting, but could be addictive I warn you now!

What about Jaiku or Pownce? Or any one of a number of other sites that offer a 'status' update facility?

Don't forget to link your blogs to Twitter using Twitterfeed.com.

I have to say that I fail to see anything of interest in the whole web 2.0 thing. And as yet no one has managed to persuade me otherwise.

I guess it depends if you have a following who believe you have something of interest to say or at least worth following for some reason.

Have you seen how many people are following Barack Obama? Well loads!

Here is my twitter page regarding office supplies here it is

Whistle Ink Twitter Page

I have tried to create this so people subscribe in order to be alterted to any freebies they might be able to get.

Do you think people just subscribe to someone hoping that they will 'return the favour' and folow them?

Yes. Twitter is just a tool. Blame the users not Twitter if it's dull. If people are interested in office supply offers they'll follow Whistle Ink and stop if it's too dull. The same for me and Adwords. My Twitter is a community of people that either provide Adwords services, or are otherwise interested in Adwords/SEO/Online Sales- it works fine for me.

... and yes some people do follow you in the hope they will be followed. If they spam you then block them. Use Tweetdeck to filter out all the garbage.

As always, each to their own. I have quite a few Twitter campaigns running for clients, as well as running my own Twitter account, and it works well.

I get traffic, leads and business from it. As does a telemarketing client. As does a cleaning company client. As does a car manufacturer client.

However, like anything, it needs a bit of strategy behind it and if you have a plan, rather than going about it willy nilly, then it helps.

I like Twitter and as long as it's useful to me, I'll carry on using it.

I have found twitter to be of value when driving traffic to a site or forum and to cater to a niche market.

I use Tweetdeck and have found it to be the best client that I have trialled.
