Default Wordpress Ecommerce system? Any advice

We're thinking of setting up a Wordpress blog/website for a client but also need a seamless ecommerce component alongside it. All of the current ecommerce options available to wordpress seem to have very mixed reviews.

Anyone with experience on wordpress and ecommerce combo.

- We're not using a full ecommerce system like oscommerce because its not needed (its a website first, shopping cart 2nd)

- I usually use Joomla for these projects but i opted for WP instead on this occassion as the blog is hugely beneficial for them.

Any opinions are appreciated

I use Shopping Cart Software, Ecommerce Solutions, Internet Marketing Tools and Merchant Accounts by 1ShoppingCart.com linked into my wordpress site.

It is easy to use and just works. It also replaced Aweber for me as it handles the autoresponders, broadcasts and emails to shopping cart/mailing list subscribers.

It was a little daunting at first but it also integrates into my wishlist membership site which is being developed. I am assured it will handle regular billing etc automatically.

Suits me at the moment anyway

Default thanks

Thanks Ray, much appreciated. If possible we're looking for an opensource (free) solution.

Whilst I understand the ethos behind opensource and agree with the principles, it does pay at times to buy commercial applications instead of restricting projects to OS alternatives.

Obviously there is a cost issue involved but if an app does the job you need by costs money to do so then surely it is worth the investment?

Default I agree

I totally agree with you openmind but we're in a bit of a bind. We've already quoted for the job and we knew that its doable via Joomla at the price given but i didn't expect that WP had so many issues with opensource ecommerce.

Most of the shopping solutions for WP are either not upto scratch or require a monthly payment/additional payments which is a big overhead for the client. There's also the point that the website is a website first and a shopping cart 2nd so the investment at this stage into a cart is not ideal.

Has anyone had a good experience with WP ecommerce?

That's fair enough, I've had my fair share of clients moving goal posts

Mind you it has given me a thought to add a simple blog to our eCommerce system for a future release..
