Default Paypal Pro anyone?

Hi Guys.

I'm struggling to find anyone using Paypal pro would you believe!
I'm currently using Standard Paypal and would appreciate your views on Pro.
Is it worth the monthly fee and is it easy to integrate?

More importantly, I'd appreciate being pointed to any example sites. I'd like to see how Pro looks when integrated properly. Thanks.

Natalie

We looked at Paypal Pro for our E-Commerce Rental Site but decided against it because of the fee's.

Sorry not much help but having been doing e-commerce sites for a number of years none of our customers have had Paypal Pro they all stick to the Standard one.

We use paypal pro for all credit card transactions at the moment.

The virtual terminal makes a transaction take just a few seconds. People don't need a paypal account to use it.

It isn't integrated into an ecommerce shop at the moment but it used to be. The main difference is that no-one knows it is paypal processing in the background. It is all done with your own pages but without the need for ssl. It is slick, easy to set up and professional.

I have considered moving away from it though because the number of transactions we process have fallen considerably since I introduced the monthly payments via standing order a year ago. Other people not on this system are now tending to pay by bacs and only one or two a month need a card facility.

I am loath to give it up though whilst it is still useful. Funds are always in our account within 3 days. It is just the monthly fee - but all merchant accounts charge a monthly fee.

Default Paypal Pro

It depends on what you need. You can use the standard paypal account for most things but Paypal Pro has added benefits (for a big extra cost of course). We used it for a client because:

- They wanted a seamless payment gateway
- They wanted to accept all cards (without a paypal account)
- There pricing was over a thousand pounds for each product

The standard paypal account couldn't handle all of this professionally because it has limits.

Do look around though and do some good research before buying. Make sure it integrates into your shopping cart as you may have to buy extra software to make it work depending on your cart. Also check out the competitors but again be wary as most of them are actually owned by Paypal.

I use Paypal pro and Google checkout
I can't put a link to my shop as I am new here but my shop is
groovycart.co.uk/collectable_dolls
If you want to see how the site looks.
The fee is fairly expensive but it allows me to accept credit cards. I don't pay any listing or selling fees for my online shop so the Paypal fees or Google checkout are my only expenses.

I signed up for pro when it was a free trial for my online shop. It still processed payments in exactly the same way as standard paypal but I wanted the virtual terminal. Apparently my Clients didn't - in three months only took two card payments over the phone so cancelled it.

Hi Natalie,

I use paypal website payment pro and I have found that most customers prefer to pay via this option rather than the link to paypal website payment standard so must of my orders come via this route.

I also found the virtual terminal that comes with the package great to process failed transactions and for dealing with telephone requests.

It isn't difficult to integrate. The monthly fees will depend on your monthly turnover and profits as this may be great if you get steady orders on your site. I am looking to switch to getting a IMA and using services like Protx because I have found out that after awhile the paypal fees taken per order in addition to the monthly recurring fee seems to add up in the end. Despite this I would recommend it to use as a starting point.

You can always use other payment options in addition to paypal website standard like google checkout etc.

Hi Natalie:
I have Paypal pro integrated in my shop, it works fine, never had any failed payments on it, I moved on to paypal pro because standard paypal has limitations (for people without paypal accounts that just want to pay with credit cards) and we were getting a lot of failed payments.
I still have paypal standard as a method of payment, for people with paypal accounts.

It is a tad expensive on the charges (if your sales drop below a certain amount) and these charges are calculated on the monthly sales of the month before, but i supose you offset that against no set-up fee and no contract.
The virtual terminal is really useful and there is no extra cost for that.

If you want to see how is integrated on my site you are welcome to visit by following the link on my signature.

I hope that helped.

I use paypal web payments pro for my main website. I certainly make more sales with it, and the virtual terminal allowing taking credit cards by telephone is ideal.

Cant fault it, charges are fine too.

I spoke to paypal today regarding the pro option and was impressed by the service that i received, so much so that I will probably sign up on monday.

I like the Irish/USA 24/7 call centre phone support and dedicated team.

I also like that fact that it is completely invisible- so much so that i can have two competing sites selling products and the end user will never know.

This means that I only need one account and can take advantage of volume discounts on transactions.

I currently use world pay (standard) for another site with google checkout but will probably drop google (now that their prices have gone up so much).
