I had an 'important alert 'from Google Adwords saying: To be seen ,I need to increase my daily allowance from £4 a day to a staggering £20 a day!'
My budget ( yes I know loads of you will laugh) is £30 per month.
What I want to know is (and I did ask Google but did not get an satisfactory reply) is why do they say you can set your adwords to your limits.
Then basically tell you,if you don't spend £20 a day ,you'll get no custom and and that you are wasting your money and will get no customers.
So really all the money, spent on adwords,it seems to me has been a complete waste of time and money.
I did 'up' the money to £5 a day.Guess what ,they then said I should be spending £25 a day! I can't win.
Are there any other adword sites that work without spending a king's ranson (well it is to me)?
Do the rest of you spend that type of money?
Do you get great returns for such an amount?
Do you actually sell shed loads from your site?
Do Google Adwords actually work only if if you spend loads........btw it didn't for my husband & sons site...............they were on £70 a day!
Thanks
patricia
In my opinion Google Ads are useless unless you have a massive budget. As an example, one of the big UK web hosts spend over £100,000 per month on Google Adwords.. there's no way we can compete with that so we don't bother trying.
With £30 a month you are probably better off spending that elsewhere. There must be online forums for that sort of thing that you could run a banner advert on for around the same price?

That depends. You could find a couple of decent sized forums with users from all over the world and do just as well, if not better, than with Google.
We've experimented with various advertising methods including Google Ads and have found that advertising within a community works much better. If you're advertising on a forum, you can also post up details of new products, offers etc with works well for us.

I know people who sell stuff on eBay that easily spend £1000/month on adwords - but they make their money back and more.
Sounds like you need to rethink your strategy if you are not seeing the rewards for what you are currently spending - perhaps by choosing more specific keywords or creating more effective landing pages.

James.

Well,to be honest ,there are not that may to choose from at the end of the day.Plus there are quite a few sites.
I guess I may have to invest,,,,,,,,,,(will be a 1 off) regarding keywords and professional advice.
But I have loads of tools, ebooks, even a free speaking ebook (which is the easiest of them all to understand) regarding keywords etc.
Initially I did well...................I just wonder if (ofcourse I'm sure they wouldn't ) Google gives you a taste of some clients to wet your appetite........in the hope you will spend more.
Like that ad on tele where they "OINK" you in with bait........
We shall see
Thanks
The Google message is simply a product of a calculation that is pointing out the potential traffic you are missing out on by not spending more. It is mathematically precise, i assure you.
Of course, you have to make the judgement as to whether or not you DO spend more, or whether to adopt other strategies to get more traffic, or different traffic to your website.
Ad words is a powerful tool. It is not, however, a guaruntee of business! However, I do agree that it favours larger budgets than this. It is a very big pond, the internet, and tricky to be at the top of it...
Why not try stumbleupon, it would at least be worth a tester and its much cheaper than google ad's and is targetted to certain interests, male/female and age groups, its worth a go?

This is what I'd put my money on.
If you sell green bananas, make sure your ads don't trigger on bananas, yellow bananas, fruit, food, etc. Just green bananas. At least until you get confident.
If you use 'broad match' (the default) you might find that's exactly what's happening. I'd also turn the content network off initially. Also make sure your ad clearly says 'green bananas' in them at least once, ideally more.
Do all those things and your budget will come right down and the clickers will probably want green bananas, so if the landing page is good (inc. an easy option to buy) then you are in with a chance.
You don't sell green bananas do you?!
BTW I do Adwords health checks & diagnostic & repair - cheap as chips ... www.onpageone.co.uk. I also do account set-up and management, but that starts to cost a bit more than chips.
I done a small campaign like you when i started out, but now, i dont bother, because i get found at least 300 times aday via search words/terms etc from google anyway.
SEO maybe a better option.
rated trades we are now No2, behind ratedpeople.
local trades we are now No1 (and two)
We have a lot of localised searches where we appear too,
For example: double glazing bexleyheath, we are no10, but we are on the first page.
Maybe this is an option for you? (not my keywords your own!!)
I know nothing really, my web designer takes care of all this, but that is what i did, and now what i do!!
