I agree.

And it goes for any correspondense. For instance, if I get an email from paypal (whether legit or not), I never click on a link in the email. I always go straight to the website, then login.

We've noticed our customers are getting a lot more of these letters recently. We've written an article on it to try and stop people falling for it.

Is Domain Renewal Group a scam?

Hopefully it will help some people out.

That's the sad truth of the matter, if this didn't work, then the scammers wouldn't bother!

Have seem a few companies, doing this sort of thing, mainly companies with official sounding letters usually for .com/.net domains, makes you think that it is a legite domain charge, but just want you to switch to a highly price domain provider, nothing illegal, as with most scams, the legal ones make the most money, watch out for, "droa" & droc" there are the main ones, but probably a hundred more, if in doubt check with your hosting or domain provider, they usualy give you honest advice, and alwasy check your renewal fees, because on occasion you may be cheeper with a different provider.

This is a horrible method of sucking in business as opposed to attracting it.
We have many customers who call us asking if we know about it and after they send us what they were sent, there it is one of those predators.
Unfortunately it isn't illegal and many fall in to the trap, easily done I suppose but if in doubt, don't.

Our clients mention this and ask advice, some have even sent off the letters with credit card details.

We think this must be against the law but it has been going on for years and the letter is worded very well.

An example of the letter can be found here:-

How many people must move to the Domain Renewal Group due to lack of knowledge.

How can we spread this information around to educate domain name owners?

I don't believe it's against the law, they're just preying on the people that don't fully understand the system.

The other thing is the price, they must be covering the costs to send out thousands of the letters.
