Hi Adam
Thanks for creating this new group.
Sure, we all know that squatters are pond scum but how do you define a squatter?
I'll buy domains speculatively, because I believe there's intrinsic value in the domain itself. I usually manage to get at least a little site onto it but not always.
If someone subsequently comes along and offers me a good price for the domain itself then I might sell it. Does that make me a squatter? I think it makes me a domainer because I see domains as a commodity that can be traded.

Good question. I've also got domains I've bought for a purpose which then sometimes I don't do anything with for some time. In that time someone may want to buy it off me and if the price is right then that's fine but I didn't buy the domain in the first place to hodl on to it until someone wants it. Just not the way I roll.
I suppose people who just buy them and then put them on sedo and leave them there are squatters?

There's some real nasties too. Friends of mine had a travel related site - forgot to renew the domain - someone did a drop-catch and bought it - offered to sell it back for $whatever.

Well, that's up to them - not my business, although I was a bit peed off to discover this some time later as we were still linking to the name that they'd lost. (Some people are clueless.)

I also buy speculatively and hold onto - have also thought about buying, building up blogs for revenue, etc.
Adam - A lot of mine are registered on sedo too, but I wouldn't say I'm a "squatter" - because I guess I associate that with people who drop-catch, try to get near-company-names, etc..
Mind you I also have the intention to use them for other things - so maybe I AM squatting them, but just denying it because I claim to have 'more noble plans' lol

Welcome to the group, Matt. Thanks for joining. We just need another 26 now for a forum.
I'm pretty much the same as Matt - buy domains speculatively in the hope they might be worth something later on.
Are we all squatters in denial?
Re drop catching - MyGoat.com was a drop catch six years ago.

I'm not sure I consider it squatting though - mainly 'cos I'm not trying to pinch known company names or near-names (not intentionally, at anyrate)! We'll see
