Lightbulb Construction Security?

Firstly, let me say, this isn't a solicitation, but a desire to learn about one of our sectors.

My background, whilst in security, is from a door supervision and event security angle, and I'm not afraid to admit my weak spot is the guarding side of things. I've learned a lot, but one area that still baffles me is construction security.

For those of you in the construction trade, what do you want from your security contractor? Other than loss prevention through either having a presence on site or proactive searching, what would we need to do to make you happy?

For those of you who work as subbies within the construction industry, what sort of checks do you have to go through in regards to gaining access to sites - both owned by the big developers and smaller developers. have any of you seen pilferage going on with your own eyes? how was it handled?

Thanks all

Default In my experience

I owned and managed a guarding company for 14 years and would say that 99% of construction firms want the following: -

Start tonight, in fact send someone now
Ex SAS in a security uniform
16-hr night shifts Mon to Friday
Rock bottom charge rate (=SAS on minimum wage)
120 day terms, may settle for 90 if you are lucky
Must be on patrol 59 minutes in every hour
Own guard base (not our canteen)
Any and all thefts will automatically be your fault
Any and all losses will be offset against invoices outstanding
Weekly Guard Tour system printouts
We've almost finished, cancel tonight and all future nights
Etc. etc.

Cynical? Who me? Well yes, maybe a tad if I'm completely honest We stopped doing site work for the above reasons. Crap work, crap money and everything will be your fault - stay well clear...

hahaha.... and who said running a team of people who only seem to want to watch the show was bad!

When you say 16 hour shifts, that's before lunch and coffee breaks, and whilst only being on the sheet as 12, right?
