I'd love to have an iPad, but perhaps with a proper keyboard, a cover to protect the screen, & a stand so that when I put it on a table I can tilt the screen to about 70 degrees.

Blimey - what on earth made you think of that? As it happens I've just bought one.
Strange story really, I have 2 eBay IDs one for posting on eBay Forums, and one to use for buying & selling (common practice to avoid auction wrecking). I found the notebook that I want for £300, with a Best Offer available - so I made an offer (as you do). The following day I checked my account to see if the offer had been accepted and couldn't find the offer. I had an inkling what had happened, & on investigation sure enough .... I'd made the offer from the wrong ID! What was a bit more wacky was I'd actually offered more than the Buy It Now price! (no I wasn't drunk in charge of a keyboard). Amazingly the seller hadn't got around to accepting the offer, so I cancelled it & and made another for £280 from the correct ID, and it got rejected. Next to try to entice the seller I offered £285 & included a note saying that I was happy to take their choice of colour - Black or White (I had noticed that they were listing both colours separately). That got rejected too, and while trying to decide which colour I wanted I accidentally noticed that even though they were offered at the same price, the white lappies had a faster processor (Duh!). So I now made a £290 offer on the white one - you can only make 3 offers, but luckily for me I was starting again on a new item. After that rejection I was thinking - why are these on Best Offer if they won't accept a near offer? In truth I really want one of these & £300 is the best price available (RRP is £650, & the next cheapest is £310, for the lower spec black type), so I was going to buy regardless, but if there is a best offer - why not take it? So I offered £294 - any more & it's not worth the messing around, just buy it! And ..... the offer was rejected.
I was actually quite annoyed! I decided I wouldn't buy from such a stupid seller & put the purchase on hold. Yesterday I decided it's time to take the plunge so I used up the last offer, just bidding £295 - & set about finding an alternative ...... & they accepted! Irrational!
I know I'm irrational too, but buyers are allowed, sellers are supposed to be sensible.
Why are black notebooks worth more than white?

I guess because more people want black, maybe they don't heat up as quick (I may have made that bit up) and they don't get as dirty?
It's the same with the wii - black was more expensive than white...

Wow am really glad you put this up and I read this thread Mark..
I was going in to buy 2 iPADS for the wife & I on saturday and feel a bit scared off now.
I think as always Apple develop through the first adopters of any of their products (look at the first iPhone), so I guess its worth waiting for the next generation due out in feb and see what improvements they have made before I part with my hard earned..

I still say it's great for browsing and viewing content - just don't expect to do any work on it!

I am using the iphone for business and it is great for emails and for accounts etc and have bought a lot of apps that I need to run the business.
The screen size is the only problem.
So based on the fact that I am happy with the iphone but just wish it was a little bit bigger, would you say the ipad would be worth a try?

The iPad is very difficult to use for any real work. For general browisng and low level stuff it's fine...anything beyond that it struggles.

The iPad is just fun, people here lack the vision to understand how this is the next leap forward for computing.
You can do work on it but more importantly your customers are using them to find your services and products to buy from you.
If you only ever regard the iPad from your own point of view then you are losing out with your business.
Your customers are using them. You better get on board quick to see why they are using them and then you can better understand how you can make the iPad work for your business!
You can Apple bash as much as you want here but your business deserves a chance to succeed!

Hi Steve
I don't think anyone's saying the iPad isn't 'good for business' (from a business' pont of view) - it's good for browsing content on the road, which is it's main strength and websites should maybe take advantage of that. However, it just doesn't cut it for business/productive use. Even simple cut & paste operations are a fiddly pain in the *rse, chopping and changing between apps. Hell, you can't even add a formatted link to an email! Apple got that so, so wrong.

Next month the iPad will join the upgrade to new OS software that currently runs on the iPhone, Apple shall also introduce this new year ad their main OS for all Mac computers!
This should address the issues mentioned here.
Again, the iPad is good for business but if you choose to stay one step behind the game, well that is of course your choice.

Well, I'd love to see a race between an iPad and a laptop for 'doing things' on the road.

Ipad is a kind of status
I read the posts about Ipad
I agree with Mark when he said netbook are better than tablets but target of this two equipments are different
A tablet is use for fun, to browser, to play games, to see movies, to take some notes. I don’t believe that anyone can use Ipad for a massive production work like typing, compose lots of e-mail per day, ect...
If you want to have fun with one try to look for Android tablets, probably you will be surprised for their simplicity and flexibility. Lots of apps for free on Android Market that you will like.
In my opinion, Ipad is a kind of status because of his brand (Apple) but if you are looking for something better you should see all the options in the market before you buy anything.

Having looked around a bit, I think that I am going to look into selling my iphone, going back to my nokia E71 and getting an iPad for using all of the apps I use.
