Exclamation Competition - Forum Titles

We have no 'forum title' system in place at the moment, apart from a tweak of the default one:

Lurker 0
Taking tentative steps 1
Getting brave 50
Bold as brass 100

Here's a competition to see who can come up with the best unique Business Forum title structure. We're looking for about 25 'levels' and the one chosen and adopted (or adapted) by the Admin will win the person who posted it a year's free banner advertising in position 1 worth £780!

Over to you!

You could always use something that plays on the name Business Labs...

Perhaps something like...
2500 Posts + Professor
5000 Posts + The Rocket Scientist

I'll have a think, it could be very tricky to get 25 levels with that theme though!!

Cheers,
Greg

How about a different take on "Forum"

- just entering the arena
- waiting to be eaten by the lions
- got myself some body armour
- armed with a net and trident
- I now have a helmet, shield and sword
- trainee gladiator
- fully fledged gladiator
- Gladiator hero
- Member of the Senate
- Ceasar himself

...starts to get a bit tenuous here, and I'm not sure if I could stretch to 25 meaningful levels.

Regards

Pete

25?

How about something similar to the following which is business orientated?

Works in progress....

Foetus
Baby
At Playgroup
At Nursery
At Junior School
At Secondary School
At College
At University
Apprentice??
Junior Trainee??
Shop Assistant
Assistant Supervisor
Supervisor
Assistant Store Manager
Store Manager
Assistant Regional Manager
Regional Manager
Nationwide Manager
Company Director
Business Consultant
Retired
In their 70s
In their 80s
In their 90s
Supreme Being!

Or something similar to the progression of starting up a business...

or knowledge based such as... fairly clued up, clued up, quite clever, clever, very clever, intellectual, brainbox, geek, etc etc

Thanks for the suggestions. It could be quite a tough one this but what we want to avoid is 'pigeon-holing' people. The owner of a medium-sized enterprise isn't really going to warm to having the rank of 'shop assistant'! I'm also not sure about the gladatorial aspect - it's a little 'aggressive'.

Hmmm.

Not bad though. Keep 'em coming, there's a years' worth of advertising at stake!

mmmmm how about military ranks? Corporal, Sergeant etc etc

http://homepages.shu.ac.uk/~acsdry/ranks.htm

or

School grades

U (ungraded)
G Grade
F Grade
E Grade
D Grade
C Grade
B Grade
A Grade
A *
Degree
Etc Etc

I actually think 25 is waaaay too many.

Default Here's another try...

I think it’s being optimistic to look for 25 gradually increasing levels that are going to be meaningful and obvious in where they come in the rankings, so here’s my best shot with 16. You could go for something like military or naval ranks, as suggested, but even then I doubt you’d get there (and I'm not sure how relevant they'd be).

1. just window shopping
2. lurking in the entrance
3. popping in for a closer look
4. wandering through the threads at random
5. taking a closer look at what’s being said
6. browsing the posts with intent
7. getting into it now
8. really paying attention
9. taking a magnifying glass out for a closer look
10. no posts escaping scrutiny
11. starting to fixate
12. it's becoming an obsession
13. this forum fills my every waking thought
14. I eat, sleep and dream of threads
15. I am known as the King/Queen of Business Labs
16. they asked me to join the admin team!

Why not have them so we can choose our own when we reach 250 posts or something?

No I won't ( I mean), 'cos I just had another thought, based around the "creating chemistry" theme. You could have a rising scale based on the atomic elements of the Periodic Table of the Elements:

Hydrogen (1)
Helium (2)
Lithium (3)
Beryllium (4)
Boron (5)
Carbon (6)
Nitrogen (7)
Oxygen (8)
Fluorine (9)
Neon (10)
Sodium (11)
Magnesium (12)
etc.

As there are (currently) 102 elements, you might want to just pick out various well known or interesting ones. Here's a link to the table http://www.bpc.edu/mathscience/chemi...f_elements.jpg

You could perhaps multiply the periodic number position by 10 (or 100?), and the number of posts could then be associated with the relevant Element.

And just for fun, here's a link to a great "song" by Tom Lehrer about the elements http://www.privatehand.com/flash/elements.html

Phew!

I actually think that we have gone off track, even with my suggestions. The idea of user titles is to make people post and grow the forum and they are basically used as a status symbol.

I think that with most of them they are too complicated and a new user will not know what they mean as there is no obvious structure or order progression to the names which I think is essential.

Going down the chemistry route is also a bit obscure as this is a business forum not a science forum, the best I think would be something similar to uglydoll's idea (below) although it needs tinkering, just my opinion and I am not necessarily right Infact I am possibly taking this faaaar to seriously

1. just window shopping
2. lurking in the entrance
3. popping in for a closer look
4. wandering through the threads at random
5. taking a closer look at what’s being said
6. browsing the posts with intent
7. getting into it now
8. really paying attention
9. taking a magnifying glass out for a closer look
10. no posts escaping scrutiny
11. starting to fixate
12. it's becoming an obsession
13. this forum fills my every waking thought
14. I eat, sleep and dream of threads
15. I am known as the King/Queen of Business Labs
16. they asked me to join the admin team!

Or something silmilar to below which has some kind of progression:

UKBL Newbie
UKBL Enthusiast
UKBL Guru
UKBL Brainbox
UKBL Intellectual
UKBL Geek
UKBL Consultant
UKBL Power Poster
UKBL Virtuoso
UKBL Prophet
UKBL Nobel Laureate

I agree with GDF that it's really hard to get meaninful progressions that everyone can make sense of (that's part of the reasoning of having the periodic number position, 'cos then even a moron like me can tell).

Think I've exhausted my few remaining grey cells, so I'll say good luck to everone who has submitted and go have a lie-down.

Pete

Oh, and to Caroline - a bit of both, I guess
