I have for years compared the
SEO market to the wild west, In fact we started this analogy on Highrankings years ago.
On the one hand you have professional doctors who would teat indians and cowboys and try to make them well again. On the other hand was the snake oil salesmen, who would simply get them drunk with firewater, but tell them it cured all ills. This is what we have today.
Another problem that I have always said is that people believe what they WANT to believe. No-one wants to believe that it is going to take them 6-12 months before they start ranking for difficult terms. So they go to someone who charges them 5 times as much but guarantees them the known universe, then complain when it all goes wrong.
Managing customer expectancy is an art, and many people don't have the personality to do it, so they lie, and they lie to make money, and it is illegal, but the plice don't get involved, and trading standards won't get involved, so the wagon rolls into town on the telephone, and the snake oil gets sold..... And the next day these poor ususpecting business owners wake up without their money, but with the biggest hangover the world has seen.
THEN, they telephone the REAL professional and for some strange reason they shout and ball at them telling them about what they have suffered at the hands of old snakey
